The Brief

Designed by Goldstein Heather, West London House transforms a substantial urban site into a contemporary family home defined by sculptural forms, natural materials and carefully framed views. The architects sought a glazing solution that would deliver exceptional thermal and acoustic performance while supporting the building’s clean and monolithic appearance.

Equally important was the internal experience, where natural timber would introduce warmth and texture throughout the living spaces.

The Challenge

The glazing needed to perform two distinct roles. Externally, it was required to sit discreetly within the pale brick and concrete façade, creating large areas of glass with minimal visual interruption. Internally, the windows needed to become an integral part of the architecture, bringing warmth, depth and character to the spaces they served.

Ecovia supplied Vantage Modern timber windows and doors in spruce. The 95mm frame profile provided excellent thermal performance while supporting large glazed openings throughout the home. By combining fixed and opening sections within the same system, the architects were able to maintain a consistent external appearance while delivering natural ventilation where required.

The Outcome

The completed home demonstrates how timber glazing can enhance contemporary architecture without compromising its clarity or precision. From the exterior, large panes of glass sit quietly within the architectural composition, allowing the sculptural forms and material palette to take centre stage.

Inside, deep timber reveals and natural spruce frames introduce warmth and texture throughout the home. The result is a building that combines outstanding thermal performance with a rich and welcoming internal environment, proving that high-performance timber glazing can be as architecturally ambitious as it is comfortable.
